Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 77

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from Matthew 9:18-26 NKJV

Summary: Jesus raises ruler’s daughter to life while being ridiculed one moment & praised the next.

18 While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.”
19 So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples.
23 When Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd wailing,
24 He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him.
25 But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.
26 And the report of this went out into all that land.

Questions & Challenge:

1. Would you and I be the one to ridicule him or the ruler who had the faith to ask Jesus for help?
2. What areas do you need to hand over to Jesus and trust him today. If the issue is enough to concern you than it matters to Jesus.

Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 76

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from Acts 20:23-24 TLB

Summary: What is our life worth unless we tell others about God’s kindness & love?

23 except that the Holy Spirit has told me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead.
24 But life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s mighty kindness and love.

Other verses: These verses remind me of Psalm 34:8 NIV
Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Questions & Challenge:

1. Is there anything of more significance we can do with our life than live in in a way that draws people to Jesus.
2. When the people around learn that you’re a follower of Jesus and he lives in side of you will they be surprised?
3. What can you do this week to not only tell someone but show them the mighty kindness & love of Jesus this week?

Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 75

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from 2 Chronicles 20:33,35-37 NKJV

Summary: Even after God shows up big we can so quickly forget!

33 Nevertheless the high places were not taken away, for as yet the people had not directed their hearts to the God of their fathers.
35 After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted very wickedly.
36 And he allied himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they made the ships in Ezion Geber.
37 But Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the Lord has destroyed your works.” Then the ships were wrecked, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

Questions & Challenge:

1. Do we want God to just fix our problems or do the bigger miracle of changing our heart?
2. Do we truly want to further God’s agenda or do we simply want God to align with our own? The people wanted their problem solved but afterwards chose to go right back to their old ways.
3. Are we aligning ourselves with people who encouraging us in our walk with God or drawing our hearts away?

Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 74

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from 2 Chronicles 20:21-24 NKJV

Summary:

21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:

“Praise the Lord,
For His mercy endures forever.”
22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. 23 For the people of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to utterly kill and destroy them. And when they [a]had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

24 So when Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked toward the multitude; and there were their dead bodies, fallen on the earth. No one had escaped.

Questions & Challenge:

1. Are we going forth to battle each day praising the Lord for his mercy that endures forever?
2. Is it possible that some of the challenges we’re facing might have different outcomes if we attacked them with an improved attitude?
3. Is it possible that regardless of the outcome we might enjoy life, and others might enjoy our presence more, if we changed our attitude and chose to Praise the Lord?

Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 73

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from 2 Chronicles 20:18-20 NKJV

Summary: Believe & obey while praising Him with a loud voice!

18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem bowed before the Lord, worshiping the Lord.
19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with voices loud and high.
20 So they rose early in the morning and went out into the Wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

Questions & Challenge:
1. Do you believe in God and will you trust his Word?
2. Are we willing to trust and obey? Trust and obey for there is no other way. Notice they took action and rose early in the morning and confronted their major obstacle with praise and singing.
3. In what areas do you simply need to believe God and take action?

I think this song Trust & Obey by John H. Sammis really sums it all up.

Trust & Obey lyrics

1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]

3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]

4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]

14 …Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel
15 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. 16 Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel.
17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”

Questions & Challenge:

1. If you’ve surrendered your life to Jesus than whose battle is it that your facing?

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from 2 Chronicles 20:11-13 NKJV

Summary: King Jehoshaphat calls upon the Lord for a deliverance.

11 here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit.
12 O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
13 Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the Lord.

Questions to ponder:
1. Where has God shown himself strong in our lives in the past? Let’s give him praise and honor and believe Him to do it again.
2. In what areas do you need God to show up and provide wisdom or a deliverance in your life?
3. Are you willing to be still and seek the Lord and wait upon him while at the same time being ready to diligently act upon what He shows you to do?

Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 69

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from 2 Chronicles 20:1-4 NKJV

Summary: King Jehoshaphat faced with a huge challenge proclaims a fast to seek the Lord.

1 It happened after this that the people of Moab with the people of Ammon, and others with them besides the Ammonites, came to battle against Jehoshaphat.
2 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi).
3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
4 So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.

Questions:
1. When faced with challenges do you first seek wisdom from above or tend to act in your own strength?
2. What big decisions are you facing that might be supported best with fasting and prayer?
3. Looking back over your life when has God showed up big when you prayed for wisdom and discernment?

Quick Daily Devotion, Episode 68

Our Quick Daily Devotion this morning comes from 2 Chronicles 18:1-7 NKJV

Summary: King Jehoshaphat aligns himself with an ungodly king, is influenced by him and nearly gets killed.

1 Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and by marriage he allied himself with Ahab.

2 After some years he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria; and Ahab killed sheep and oxen in abundance for him and the people who were with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead.

3 So Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?”

And he answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war.”

4 Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire for the word of the Lord today.”

5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?”

So they said, “Go up, for God will deliver it into the king’s hand.”

6 But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him?”[a]

7 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is still one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla.”

And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say such things!”

Questions:
1. Are we aligning ourselves with people who are encouraging and challenging us to be more like Jesus or distracting us from pursuing God’s plan for our life?
2. Are we consistently getting time in God’s word and in prayer so that we’re able to discern and hear His will for our lives? With that said, do we truly even want His plan for our life or do we honestly just want him to support our own agenda?
3. What action steps do you know you need to take immediately to be obedient to God plan for your life?
